History of St. Jude Thaddeus Parish - Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte

Formerly a visita of Bangui, it was created a parish on March 17, 1959 with Fr. Leonidas Oandasan as the first pastor. When Archbishop Juan C. Sison came for the canonical erection in the northernmost tip of his domain, he declared the parish church as the Diocesan Shrine of St. Jude Thaddeus, who had become popular among devotees. When the Diocese of Laoag was erected, it can be said that it is now the Regional Shrine of the Miraculous Apostle, in keeping with the intention of Archbishop Sison of making Pagudpud a pilgrimage site for the faithful within the former large territory of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia.

Two years later, Fr. Oandasan founded the St. Jude High School under the administration of the Religious of the Virgin Mary. In 1966, the diocesan celebration of Christ the King was held for the first time in the parish and was repeated 29 years later in 1995. As a preparation to the First Diocese of Laoag Pastoral Assembly, the first Parish Pastoral Assembly was convened in 1994. And in 1999 the coral anniversary foundation of the parish was held.

Two years after proclaiming Pagudpud as a pilgrim site was almost unnoticed when the late Archbishop Sison relinquished jurisdiction over it to the bishop of the new diocese. Even up to this time, rarely mentioned  its importance to the devotees of St. Jude Thaddeus, believed to be the consoler and miracle worker for hopeless people caught in hopeless situations.
